How does dismissal work?

Ops and Finance

Pick Up Procedures

Kairos dismisses from 4:00-4:20 p.m. using the FetchKids app (App Store, Google Play Store). To avoid congestion at the start, we ask 8th-grade parents (and anyone else who can) to arrive around 4:10 p.m.

For early dismissal, please request your child be dismissed via FetchKids once you're on your way.

Dismissal Line

To enter our dismissal line, turn east off Jefferson Ave. onto Utah St., south onto Missouri Ave., and west onto Miami St. Kairos stations staff along the dismissal line, and students will walk the line until they find their car.

You must pick students up on the side of the street closest to Kairos. Crossing the street can be dangerous for children and other drivers. Kairos staff will not dismiss students across the street, including into the visitors lot across from our student entrance.

FetchKids

Kairos dismisses students if (i) they are authorized to walk home independently (indicated in our annual forms) or (ii) they've been requested on FetchKids by someone authorized to pick them up. If you or an authorized guardian doesn't have a phone, please let your coach know so we can make alternative arrangements.

Kairos invites one “Primary Parent” for each student to download the FetchKids app from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android). That parent will receive an invitation to register with the email address they gave Kairos. They will also be able to invite and authorize others to pick up their child.

Every afternoon, when you leave for pickup, go to the FetchKids Dashboard, select one or more children to pick up, and click "Start Pickup." The app will use geolocation to tell us when you are estimated to arrive.

After Care

Kairos provides free transportation to Gene Slay Girls and Boys Club, which offers aftercare enrichment, activities, tutoring, and dinner until 7:30 p.m. You can sign up for that, along with robust winter, spring, and summer break programming, by paying a single $60/year membership fee. Scholarships are available. Click here to learn more about Kairos' after care options.

Early Pickup

Need to pick your child before 4:00 p.m.? Request a dismissal on FetchKids. Note, Kairos does not dismiss between 2-4 p.m.

Late Pickup

At 4:20 p.m., Kairos sends all remaining students to an after care program. If you haven't paid for an after care program (e.g., $60 for the year at Gene Slay Girls and Boys Club), then Kairos will remain with your child until you arrive. Kairos pays our staff over time to stay after scheduled hours.

Kairos covers one complimentary late pickup per student per year. If you are late twice, Kairos will pass the cost of staff overtime onto you as a fee. If you have not picked up your child by 6:00 p.m., Kairos will drop them off at a local police station for safe supervision until you arrive.
