What does

“personalized learning” mean?

Every child has different strengths and weaknesses, so we use coursework that adapts to the unique learning needs of each student. With an internet of resources, personal laptops empower students to learn in the way and at the pace that is best for them.

Learn at Your Own Pace

In most schools, everyone in a class is taught the same thing at the same time. At Kairos, students get to decide the speed you work through material. That means students will never be bored because a teacher’s going too slow, and will never be confused because a teacher’s going too fast.

To do this, we use a world-class resource: The Summit Learning Platform. Students will move through courses on the Platform as they master material, working with peers and teachers to complete a wide range of real-world projects. Students will access the Platform on their own Chromebook (provided by Kairos).

1-1 Attention

Just like teachers help nurture academic function, each Kairos student also has a dedicated coach to help them develop executive function (the ability to manage choice productively). As students strengthen their executive function, they gradually earn more ownership over their schedules. Coaches check in with your student throughout the week to help set goals and make concrete plans to achieve them. Coaches also help students reflect on their actions and learn from mistakes.

At Kairos, students, coaches, and parents are a team. Coaches will write home every week, call home every cycle (~7 weeks), and visit homes every quarter. In fact, you’ll meet them before the school year even starts at your first home visit!

Own Your Education

When you go to college, no one tells you when to study. You choose. No one tells you where to study. You choose. And, no one tells you how to study. You choose that, too. So to prepare students for this autonomy, we will help them learn how to make those decisions at Kairos. There are all sorts of choices students can make when directing their own learning.
