Personalized Learning Curriculum
Each cycle, students follow personalized learning pathways and are assigned individualized skills–based on skill gaps identified by the NWEA MAP test. IXL is one of the online platforms Kairos uses to prepare students for learning in the 21st century (the other is Vocabulary.com). Skills in IXL are intended to meet the students at their specific needs and help them reach foundational fluency.

Suggested Skills
When you log into IXL, you will see "Suggested Skills" on the top right of the page–these are the skills that your teacher recommends you complete. You need to complete a certain number of skills over the course of a cycle during self-direction time in order to receive credit.
Both IXL and Vocab.com’s personalized learning assignments develop students' skills and affect their Fundamentals grade for the cycle. Students can raise their grade by logging into IXL, and work on “Suggested Skills.”
How the IXL platform works:
SmartScore
IXL’s SmartScore measures how well a student understands a skill. Whenever a student starts practicing a skill, the SmartScore starts at 0. When they answer questions correctly, the SmartScore increases; conversely, when, when a student answers questions incorrectly, the SmartScore decreases. The SmartScore is not a percent; it is IXL’s representation of how close the student is to mastery. At Kairos, we want our kids scoring at 100 for skill mastery.
