True education is holistic. It’s not just developing a sharp mind; it’s about setting a noble purpose, then pursuing it with a big heart and aligned actions. The Kairos Constellation is a metaphor we use for developing all aspects of our humanity. As travelers in life, we all refer to some sort of constellation to guide our path, both inside and outside the classroom.
At Kairos, we push students to be collegial, inquisitive, responsible, and intentional with their actions in all spaces and during all activities. We recognize that not all students uphold these four values at all times, so we have systems in place to help support them when they need to be guided towards our aligned values and expectations.
Constellation Characteristics
Collegiality is the relationship between colleagues. It can connote respect for another's commitment to the common purpose and ability to work toward it. Students can show collegiality by working together, going out of one’s way to help someone else, contributing to conversations with others, supporting/complementing classmates, or building off others’ ideas.
Inquisitivity is being curious and asking questions about the world around us. Students can show inquisitivity by asking questions, answering questions, verbalizing wonderings, diving deeper into topics that interest them, and thinking outside of the box.
Responsibility is doing the right thing for the greater good of the community, even when no one is watching! Students can show responsibility by exceeding the expectation, leading by example, admitting to a mistake, standing up for someone else, and many other responsible actions!
Intentionality is making specific choices to do certain things. Students can show intentionality by making smart choices, going out of their way to accomplish a specific goal, bringing commitment, focus, and attention to things that are important to them, or making decisions that they know will benefit them and the good of their community in the long run.
