What should my student

do if they miss class?

EMAIL YOUR COACH AND TEACHERS

Students should email their coach and teachers to request any classwork or assignments they missed. Our team will help students plan so they can stay on track in their coursework.

Nothing is more important to us than your success, which is why it’s so important to us for you to show up. Here’s what we’ll do to help you.

EVERY ABSENCE

Text Message: Coaches will text parents to let them know that their student has been marked as absent. Parents  will receive this text as soon as their student is late.

8TH ABSENCE

Risk for Truancy Letter: Kairos’ Head of School will send a letter home detailing the number of absences and next steps that we will take.

10TH ABSENCE

Truancy Reported: Pursuant to law (201.115 RSMo), Kairos will report suspected truancy to the Missouri Children’s division and/or the St. Louis City Truancy Court.

A Couple Things To Keep In Mind

Partial unexcused absences (i.e., tardies and early pick-ups) are summed to accurately reflect the total amount of time a student was absent from school. (E.g., 8 unexcused absences = 54 hours; 10 unexcused absences = 67 hours.) That means that if your student is  frequently late or often leaves early, we may need to report truancy even if they show up every day. All of that missed class time adds up and hurts student learning!

  • To be excused for illness, the families must provide a doctor’s note.
